An Afternoon of Musical Storytelling

Join us for a journey through realms of imagination and drama, where each work unfolds a unique tale of enchantment—showcasing the wit, suspense, and vibrant color that lie at the heart of some of classical music’s most captivating stories.

La Gazza Ladra Overture,
Gioachino Rossini

Opening with an arresting snare drum roll, Rossini’s La Gazza Ladra Overture immediately conjures a sense of playful intrigue. Bursting with the composer’s trademark wit and effervescent energy, it sets a mischievous tone that foreshadows the lighthearted adventures to come.

Symphony No. 8,
Franz Schubert

Widely known as the “Unfinished Symphony,” Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 lures listeners into a realm of gentle suspense. With only two completed movements, its tender harmonies and haunting lyricism lend an air of poetic enigma.

As one of the earliest and most influential symphonic poems, Liszt’s Les Préludes offers a transcendent exploration of life’s evolving chapters. Its rhapsodic themes and dramatic orchestral contrasts evoke a sense of soulful transformation, casting a spell of introspection and wonder.

Les Préludes,
Franz Liszt

In the final movement of Scheherazade, Rimsky-Korsakov immerses us in the spirited bustle of Baghdad’s festival before carrying us off across treacherous, storm-tossed seas. Exotic melodies, vibrant orchestration, and a climactic shipwreck unite to weave a captivating tapestry of color and drama.

Scheherazade (4th movement),
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov
